MAY|2023 - Digital Couture for an Iconic Legacy
To mark the 2023 Met Gala and the Costume Institute exhibition Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, The Diigitals created a series of digital images in collaboration with the official Karl Lagerfeld channel, celebrating the enduring legacy and unmistakable aesthetic of Karl Lagerfeld.
Featuring virtual model Shudu, the project reinterpreted Lagerfeld’s iconic visual language through digital couture and virtual production. Shudu wore a bespoke digital interpretation of the Karl Lagerfeld collection, created in collaboration with Studio Acci, showcasing the precision and craftsmanship of high-end CLO3D garment production.
In the imagery, Shudu appears larger than life, positioned alongside a sculptural model of the Karl Lagerfeld Maison exterior in Paris, created by Rogue Studios. This juxtaposition of scale and architecture reinforces Lagerfeld’s status as a cultural icon, transforming the building itself into a symbolic object within the composition.
The garments were developed as digital couture pieces at the highest level of 3D craftsmanship, with meticulous attention to texture, structure, and surface detail. Hundreds of individually placed gemstones and refined material simulations were used to replicate the intricacy and ornamentation associated with luxury fashion ateliers.
By bringing together The Diigitals, Studio Acci, and Rogue Studios, the collaboration demonstrates how iconic fashion heritage can be reinterpreted through digital humans, sculptural environments, and advanced production techniques, while maintaining the craftsmanship expected from luxury fashion houses.
More than a digital campaign, the project reflects an ongoing dialogue between heritage and innovation, and how the future of luxury storytelling is increasingly shaped through digital creation.
